On 13 January 2026, the Reserve Bank of India notified the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Goods and Services) Regulations, 2026 ("2026 Regulations"), trailed by the issuance of the Directions on Export and Import of Goods and Services on 16 January 2026, both aimed at promoting cross-border trade and ease of doing business. The 2026 Regulations take effect from 1 October 2026.
The 2026 Regulations rewrite much of the framework that governs India’s export and import transactions — rationalizing, simplifying, and handing authorised dealer banks far greater operational flexibility in step with how cross-border trade actually moves today.
