By Shipra Verma

The article in this issue of Corporate Amicus discusses the rise of the direct investments by Indian Family Offices due to India’s consistent and steady economic growth, the increasing maturity of its capital markets, and other factors. It also discusses how investments by family offices are distinct from that by traditional PE funds, and how these offices are structured – as Private Limited Companies and Limited Liability Partnerships, or as Alternative Investment Funds. The author, for this purpose, also analyses the pros and cons of both the structures. Also, discussing the rights of the investors and Family Investment Funds in the GIFT City, the author points out that it is time for the SEBI to introduce a dedicated regulatory framework to oversee Family Offices as distinct investment vehicles.
