PART-2
Tax and FEMA Considerations for Outbound Expats
(Individuals Relocating Overseas from India)
International mobility can give rise to complex tax and regulatory obligations under the Income-tax Act and the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Changes in residential status can impact the taxation of income and assets, disclosure requirements, banking arrangements, and the ability to hold and make investments in India and overseas.
This webinar series is designed to provide practical guidance on the tax and FEMA implications that arise at different stages of an individual's relocation journey, helping participants navigate compliance requirements and make informed financial decisions.
The Part 2 will address the tax and FEMA considerations for individuals moving overseas from India. Topics will include residential status determination in the year of exit, tax implications, treaty considerations, banking arrangements, and the treatment of investments already held in India. The discussion will further cover the ongoing tax and FEMA framework applicable during the non-resident period, including reporting obligations, investment and banking considerations, and transactions that may be undertaken while residing outside India.
The session will also examine the implications of a future return to India, including the treatment of overseas assets and investments accumulated during the period of non-residence and the associated disclosure and compliance requirements.
