Understanding BIS Regulations
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, sets Indian Standards and certifies products to ensure the availability of safe goods.
Quality Control Orders (QCOs) by the Central Government, in consultation with BIS, mandate BIS certification for certain products to protect human, animal, and plant health. Violation of a QCO is punishable under the BIS Act, 2016. BIS has till date formulated Indian Standards for 22,000+ products, with 725+ covered under the ambit of QCOs. BIS certification is likely to soon be mandatory for most of the daily and industrial-use products.
Our team of experts simplifies the process at every stage, from understanding if your products fall under QCOs to preparing and filing your BIS license applications, handling representations to the Ministry/BIS, and guiding you through compliance checks and ongoing requirements.
