Competition & Antitrust: November 2021

"This month’s edition discusses the various antitrust and merger control decisions from the months of October-November 2021. The newsletter features an article analysing the CCI’s decision relating to cartelization in the beer industry where a staggering penalty of INR 870 crore was imposed. Some of the recent decisions in the competition space, include the CCI’s recent orders where the regulator has refrained from imposing a monetary penalty on parties indulged in collusive bidding on account of them being medium and small enterprises or in poor financial condition as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CCI recently also cleared several combinations, including the acquisition of shareholding by Zomato in Grofers, the sale of Jaypee Infratech under Corporate Insolvency Process, amongst others."
